Definition of international business law

1–2 minutes

International business law is not, strictly speaking, a branch of law. In fact, this expression is useful to designate all the legal issues encountered by private parties (investors, companies, enterprises) in their international activities. It encompasses many legal disciplines (like company law, commercial law, intellectual property law, administrative law) addressing a wide range of legal issues, such as international trade, importing and exporting, cross-border investments, partnerships, joint ventures, international contracts, dispute resolution, intellectual property, processing personal data.

International business law includes, in particular, private international law. The main purpose of private international law is to determine the rules applicable to an international case, as well as the court competent to adjudicate an international dispute.
